Happy Birthday Boden

Boden celebrated his second birthday in style.  We had more of a birthday weekend.  Mom and dad took Friday off which was his birthday.  It was a warm day so we went to lake Loosdrecht for some beach time.  Armed with his water wings, pail and shovel, Bode spent 2.5 straight hours in the water.  He started off playing on the beach, getting his feet wet and then after he warmed up, decided to go all in and start swimming.  Didn’t want mom or dad to hold on.  He even tried to swim across ‘the ropes’ into the boating area.  He made a couple of friends and started digging holes and filling them with water.

Afterwards, we went to the toystore ‘Bart Smit’ and bought his gifts.  A couple of race cars Bode loved.  He also picked out some bubbles and had some french chocolate bread.  At bedtime, he was exhausted and wanted to go to bed but after we put him down, he started screaming like I’ve never heard him scream before.  We ran upstairs to find his ‘Oscar’ had fallen out of bed onto the floor.  Once Oscar was returned, Bode went straight to bed.

Saturday brought Bode’s party.  Six of his “closest” friends…close in age that is, decended on Gerard Doulaan 5 for a real party.  We rented a bouncy castle, decorated the house with balloons and streamers, made Elmo and Cookie Monster cup cakes and were ready for a great time.  We found out that Bode loves M&Ms, chips and chocolate cup cakes.  Bode still plays around other kids rather than with them.  This was evident with in the bouncy castle.  He was always floating around the outside of the group…until Mia arrived and included Bode in everything.  He was even giving her kisses and hugs. Bode liked watching everyone rough house in the ‘BC’ but when dad started playing rough with the other kids, Bode got upset and started crying, thinking Dad was getting hurt.  His favorite gift was a big Elmo about the size of Bode.  He took him everywhere including bed.  And kept calling out Elmo.

On Sunday, relaxed around the house and tried shake off his sugar buzz from Saturday.  He had a hard fall when trying to get out of his chair after lunch.  He tried to stretch a little too far across the table and lost his footing on the chair and fell back and hit his head on the chair and floor.  Ouch.  He’s got a bit of a bump on the back of his head.  At the end of the day, when going to bed, mom asked Bode…’how old is Boden’…Bode’s response was…’twooo’.  Happy birthday little buddy.

Hutson sleeps thru the night!

Hutson slept thru the night last night. Hip, hip hoorah! We put him to bed around 7pm and this week he’s been surpassing the 9-10pm waking and last night, he skipped the 1-2am waking. Tim and I got up at 5:30am and realized neither one of us got up in the middle of night to feed him. At 6 months (almost…next week). He slept thru! Cross our fingers that it hapens again tonight and tmr, and the next night….

Hutson also rolled over! Both Tim and I saw him do it in his bed but Maria said she saw him do it during the day. He also yesterday swallowed his rice cereal rather than swirl it around in his mouth. Maria also has been sleep training him. He is taking longer naps and falling asleep with little to no soothing.

So slept thru the night, own room, sleep training, solids, and roll over all in one week at almost 6 months.

Boden spent the day outdoors all day today..naked most of the time. He has his first tan. This kid is going to bronze really well

So many words!

So many words are coming of our little boy’s mouth. This morning the floor fan was on in our room and Boden runs over and says “That’s Fast!” Then proceeds to say, off. He steps on the wet floor and says Wet. If we don’t listen closely, we miss a bunch but it’s so fun for us to hear how hard he’s trying to make the correlation of words with things he sees. We are currently are trying to have him say Boden is two (for his upcoming birthday) but that hasn’t sunk in yet.

Boden was playing in his swimming pool in the back yard and was spraying the hose. He managed to squirt it straight on Hutson, which gave him a bit of shock.

The weather is warm so it’s so lovely to see Boden enjoying the backyard.

Boden has taken to singing.  When listening to the radio, youtube or other show and hears music and starts to sing along.  He’ll also belt out a nice ABC rendition upto G.  Then he skips to S and Y.  He’s already a dancer and is always adding a new move or two.  His latest are a butt slap, head bob and the ‘mash potato’.

He’s also been falling asleep a bit later than normal.  We’ll put him down around 7:30 as normal.  He’ll give his 5 minute protest and then lay down and talk with his toys, sing a bit and then finally going down around 9:00.

Hutson is starting to scoot a bit.  He’ll be laying on his back and kicking his legs and then will dig his heals in and push himself forward.  Pretty strong legs for a little guy.  He’s also napping longer.  His morning and mid day nap have extended to an hour.  He is also visually following people.  This morning, Bode was running around the living room and Hutson was looking left and right trying to keep up with his older brother.  His grip is also strong.  He’ll grab on and won’t let go.

Hutson gets his own room

Today we dismantled our walk-in closet and officially gave Hutson his own room. Another milestone in Hutson growing up. He’ll be sleeping in there for the first time tonight.  Along with the new room, he has grown into 6-9 month clothing.  He has a bunch of new clothes to wear now.

Hutson is grabbing for everything and trying to stick it into his mouth. He’s tactile. When he sits in the bumpo he tries to push himself out by arching his back, something that Boden didn’t do until much later. He also tries and reaches for things while sitting in it and also had a major poop explosion up the back as well.

Hutson is not taking to solid foods as quickly as we expected.  He’ll take it into his mouth, give a curious look on his face, swish the cereal around his mouth and then spit it out.   His appetite for milk is increasing.  He’s been drinking 150 ml per feeding regularly.

We are now trying to sleep train Hutson.  He normally falls asleep in our arms but now, we’d like to put him down drowsy and fall asleep on his own.  He has fought this and cries in protest.  His little chin get wrinklie wehn he cries…very cute.

Boden gets really shy around other kids.  He tucks his chin into his chest, raises his shoulders to his ears and looks stressed when there are a lot of kids around.  He also is becoming a bit more distructive.   When he is upset, he throws things and falls to the ground crying, pounding and kicking the floor.

Hazel, the playgroup instructor says Bode is a joy in the group.  He plays well with others, is respectful and has fun…which is most important.  Last week, Bode didn’t want to leave, prefering to play on the slide.

Huton eating and haircut

This weekend Hutson had some big milestones. We gave him solids for the first time and he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. But he sat in his Bumpo and was a trooper trying to make sense of this new senstation.  He was eager to chew on the spoon but when he felt this foreign substance in his mouth, he gave a puzzled look and worked it out.

We also decided to cut Hutson’s hair this weekend as well. Just the little flips on the sides and also tail he was growing in the back. His hair is definitely becoming curly and more blond. It will be interesting to see if we have two toe heads.  His hair is so long and thick that he is able to wind and twirl his fingers through his hair.

We are still trying to wean Hutson from Nursing. He’s taken to the bottle well but prefers nursing. At night Hutson is like a rotating wheel. When I get him for a feeding, he turned sideways in the bed with his head and hands jammed thru the crib arms. He moves so much. I think he also prefers to snuggle in bed than sleep alone.  He’s a good snuggler.

Hutson is so close to rolling over.  Just needs to get over his shoulder.  He’s basically on his tummy but is hung up on his arm/shoulder.

Cici has taking a liking to Hutson as well.  Much more than Boden.  She will snuggle up to Hutson and let him ‘pet’ her.  She never did this with Bode.  Hutson also laughs and smiles when petting her.

Boden is officially off bottles.  He now drinks his milk out of a sippy cup.  He’s also off formula drinking full milk.  He’s made the transition well although when he spots Hutson’s, he thinks about taking a sip.

Boden follows Cici around with her hard food trying to feed her. Boden is mimicking us a ton…when I call for TIM, TIM to get me something, next thing I hear is Boden yelling TIM! TIM!   He also started singing along to a lullaby.  Was more of a hum than singing but he tried to keep the beat and melody.

Boden also got a hold of Pascha’s toe seperator and tried to put it inbetween his toes.  Very funny.  He also is able to anticipate events.  He will see mom or dad putting on their shoes and says ‘good-bye’ or gets his shoes to go to.  He hears plastic unrapping in the kitchen and yells ‘cookie’ while running in to see if he’ll be getting a snack.

Bode also likes to sit in the drivers seat of the car and press all the buttons, turn on the flashers, play with the radio and sun roof and make a vroooom and beep beep sounds.  He honked the horn accidentally which made him jump…and then give a big grin like he just discovered the fountain of youth.
