Boden’s recovery & Hutson’s 3rd vaccinations

Saturday night after the surgery, Boden had a vomitting episode which lasted thru the night. On Sunday, he ran and high fever for most of the day with heavy ear drainage, which prompted us to call the doctor. They recommended we call his surgeon in the morning if the fever continued. We called Monday morning as he still had the high fever we took him in the the doctor said he had infection in both ears, most likely due to the build up he had. He just layed on the couch most of the day and watched cartoons, which he never does.

We had our new nanny start today. She seemed to really enjoy the boys. Hutson had his 3rd vaccinations on Monday. He took it like a trooper but he seemed to be irriated through out the day. So the boys were a handful. Glad a stayed home with Maria otherwise it probably would’ve been too much.

Boden actually said…”this is a door,” pointing to his bedroom door. It’s so fun to hear him talk.

Boden’s First Surgery

On Friday, June 22nd, we took Boden to get his aneoids removed and tubes put in his ears. We couldn’t feed him before the surgergy which was at 9:45am. So when he woke up at 6am all we could give him was apple juice and we felt so bad when he kept giving us the eat and milk sign. We kept him distracted with playing until we had to go.  When we gave him apple juice instead of milk, he took a sip and looked at me and said…”Juice?”  It was more of a question than a statement.

We went to the hospital and as soon was we got off the elevator someone was there to greet us. She said only one of us can go with Boden get to be put under. I stayed with Hutson went with Boden and in about 3 minutes he was back. He said that they put a mask over Boden’s face, which made him cry and then he was out. We went into the waiting area and in 5 minutes Boden was out! They didn’t even change his clothes. He was out before 10am. They wheeled him out laying on the bed, which made me sad. He had his little stripped white/blue cheeky monkey t-shirt on and his navy converse. As he started to wake up, some blood squirted out of his nose and mouth. When his eyes opened up I was able to hold him.

There was an assembly line of kids coming in and out of the surgery. Just funny to see. We then went to a larger waiting room where all the kids got popcles. He was a bit cranky before his nap but after his nap, he seemed to be just fine like nothing happened.

This week Boden is saying a lot more words. Yesterday morning when he was waking up and called to get me he said “mama, mama what are you doing?”. He points to pictures in books and calls out bear, shoes, ball. He copies what I say when I say pull down the blinds, he says pull. He says banana properly now “banana”. He learns a bit from YouTube. He says G when he saw the G song.  He says up and down and on and off.  He also recognises people in photos like grandma and grandpa and nana and bapa.

He’s getting so much more affectionate. He runs to me and grits his teeth so hard and tries to pinch me. He is very intense.

Hutson is learning to sleep more and more on his own. He also is now into 3 naps per day.  One at around 8:00, a second around noon and the third around 3:30 or so.  He finally goes to sleep at 6:30 or so.  We see Hutson is trying to roll over.  He’ll pull his knees up and try to grab his feet and then roll over onto his right side.  He’s almost there.  Hut is also very grabby.  He will grab anything in arms reach…keys, a toy, hair or a misplaced drinking glass.  He is also total smiler and giggler.  And it doesn’t take much to get him going.

We fed Hutson some rice with his milk tonight. He didn’t really go for it but this is the start of solid foods for Hutson.  We hope this will help him sleep through the night.

Neighborhood Carnival

The boys are growing so fast.  Hutson is already 4 months old and Boden is 22 months.  And with these two active guys, things won’t slow down.

Hutson discovered his toes this morning.  While changing his diapers, he kicked his feet up high and grabbed the left toes with his hand.  Pretty slick.  He’s also been dealing with a bit of constipation.  This has come about as we’ve started alternating formula with the breast milk.  He gets tummy massages to help but no luck as of tonight.  Hutson is smiling more and more often.  He loves meeting new people and flashing his toothless grin.  People are drawn to him and the twinkle in his eyes and big smile.

Boden’s verbal development continues.  He understands (we think) most of what we say.  In addition, his vocabulary grows every day.  HIs latest words are ‘Elmo’, ‘Cookie’ for both cookie and cookie monster, ‘Tubby’ for teletubbies, bath, bird for bird or big bird, shoes, and the list goes on.  Lately, he is saying good bye at every chance.  He says bye to the water going down the drain, to food being eaten, balls rolling under the couch and so on.  Not just to people leaving.  Last night, while going to bed, we were reading a book and starting to snuggle, I put my chin on the top of his head.  Boden pushed my chin off his head and said bye.  I asked if he wanted to go to bed and he said yea.  When I put him down, he said bye and closed his eyes.

Today we went to our neighborhood carnival.  Boden had a great time on the ‘moon jumper’ and interacting with other kids.  I think he struggles a little bit with other kids speaking dutch to him but shrugs it off and starts laughing with the others.  He also played knock the paint cans over by throwing a ball.  Boden loved the game and the crash sounds the cans would make when hitting the ground.  He even started ‘helping’ the other kids after they threw the ball.  If they didn’t knock them all over, Bode would run up to the table and knock the rest over and then clap and laugh as the cans went crashing to the ground.  He also had his first marshmellow followed by 3 more.  After three hours playing at the carnival, Boden was spent and we went home.

Boden has been chasing Cici around the house quite a bit and goes up to her face and wags his fingers in her face. The other night she was under the table and he got down under where with her. We don’t know what happened but he started rolling around on the ground and yelping. As I got him into the bath that’s when I noticed he had a swipe across his face. She probably just had enough. I don’t think he got the message because he continues to pull her hair out and chase her around. He loves her soo much.

He loves her so much that he clentches his teeth and just shakes lke he can’t get enough. He also does that with Hutson and actually did that with me last night and also dad. Boden is also getting his counting down. He practices saying 1, 2,3. Last night we grabbed his two oscars and said One two, I was impressed that he got that concept of two items equals two. He also has the concept of Hot. He pointed and touched a hot cup of coco and said hot.

Fond moments

Hutson had his first formula feeding last week while mom was in Japan. He went the whole week on the bottle and the breast milk ran low so Tim decided to mix formula in with it and he actually took to it just fine.

Tim told Boden I was coming home and when Gosia our cleaner unlocked the door, he said “mama, mama”. He was anticipating my return. When I finally did come in, he greeted me and then ran away. Then he gave me a big hug.

Hutson’s hair is getting blonder and beginning to flip out on the side just like Boden’s did early on. His little leg rolls are disappearing as his legs are becoming longer. Hutson also loves sucking on clothes, he sucks on shirts, rags or his own clothes. He is also able to to stick things back in his mouth. He took his binky out and stuck it back in. He’s still intensely interested in his hands and coo’s continously with a little gurgle. He’s fallen into taking 3 naps a day. Still requires soothing but can also also fall also fall asleep, if he as too, self-soothing. He smiles a lot. Giving new people and even skype calls his toothless grin. He enjoys the bath and coos as he sit him down into the water. Cici came up and nuzzled Hutson and he started giggling hysterically.

Boden is adoring cici. He’s much gentler with her and gets so excited to pet her that he clenches his teeth really hard and starts shaking. She is also way more tolerant of him and actually lets him cuddle her. If he doesn’t want her to go outside, he jumps in front of her cat door. Boden is communicating a lot more. He’s confident in saying one two three and also calls out “O,M,Y,A” really well.  We went to the little gym on Sunday morning. At first it was really shy and hung on me (something he never does) and finally warmed up. He practiced a ton on the balance beam and loved playing with the bubbles and the balls. He ran into a kid really hard and they were both a bit disoriented by it. Neither cried but both ran to mom. Boden kept running into my arms and jumping on me, which always maks me feel good.

One of the nights before I left, Boden was jumping on our bed without covers. He thought it was the best thing ever. He was jumping and flopping around on the bed and then started jumping on me. We both giggled and laughed so hard. This was the first I had the enjoyment of wrestling around with boden. I was either pregnant or breast feeding hutson.

Boden’s palette is increasing, he’s enjoying couscous, red pepper and green oinions for instance.

Morning Routine

Boden and Hutson have morning routines.  Hutson usually wakes up first.  He gets a little restless around 5ish and then pops up for a bottle and changing around 5:30.  Boden has been waking up around 5:45 demanding his bottle.  He has his bottle while having his diapers changed and getting dressed for the day.  Bode and I then go into the bathroom to brush our teeth and then off to the closet to get dressed and ‘put on our deoderant’.  We all then go down stairs for breakfast.  Boden usually has either cereal or some sort of porridge along with a banana.  Hutson lays on the table listening to Boden’s rambling.

This morning after eating, I was feeding Hutson a bottle on the couch and Bode came up next to me and demanded to hold Hutson.  Boden held both arms out and then climbed up on the couch and put his arms out again.  So I put Hutson in his arms and Bode proceeded to ‘rock’ Hutson.  He then started to name all of Hutson’s body parts…poking him in the eye and putting his finger in his mouth.  After about 10 minutes, Hut started crying and I picked him up.  Boden was shocked and demanded Hutson be returned.

Boden cuddling Hutson

Boden has started climbing into his chair for dinner.  It’s not the smoothest thing you’ll see but he can get up in the seat.  Getting down is a different story…

Welcome June

It’s been two weeks since we’ve returned from our trip to the US and Boden continues to be a bit anxious about going to bed at night.  Call is seperation anxiety or whatever, Bode must have his outburst before falling off to sleep.  Tonight, before putting him down, he was almost asleep in my arms when I put him down and he fired up and has been screaming at the top of his lungs for the last 30 minutes.  I went in for about 5 minutes to cool him off and then put him down again but he continues to protest now at 19:50.  Today, Boden went for a long walk with Zeenath.  They walked to the Albert Hein in the city center which is about 1 KM and back.  Upon returning to the house, Boden sat down in the driveway exhausted.  When Zeenath asked him if he was tired, he said ‘Yea yea yea.”

Hutson has been growing and eating like crazy.  He seems bigger by the day.  A smile and toothless grin is always on his face.  When we have tummy time, Hutson raises and holds his head up and keeps it up.  He is eating 150cc of milk per meal and eats a little faster.  He seems to want the binki a bit more than even a month ago and wakes up if it falls out of his mouth while sleeping.
